NORTH WOODSTOCK, N.H. - If you grew up in New Hampshire, chances are you remember a visit to places like Story Land, Santa's Village, Six Gun City and Clarks Trading Post.

The older you got, the more it didn't seem like summer to you unless you went up Mount Washington aboard the Cog Railway or the Auto Road and when company came to visit, that meant a neat trip to the Flume Gorge or Polar Caves.

"Many of our attractions have been enjoyed by our parents and grandparents and while there is a sense of nostalgia associated with many of them, there truly is always something new each year," said Jayne O'Connor, president of White Mountains Attractions, which markets 16 tourist venues in the region.

This year, visitors will see some fabulous new rides and amenities at nearly a dozen White Mountains Attractions.

"You'll want to plan to bring your bathing suits for new rides at the Whale's Tale in Lincoln and at Santa's Village in Jefferson," O'Connor said. "If you adored the performing cats at Story Land, you will love the dogs who'll steal the show this summer and train enthusiasts will want to make tracks for the Cog and the Conway Scenic Railroad this summer."

Some of the new highlights this summer will include:
An 18,000-square-foot-expansion of Shipwreck Island at the Whale's Tale Water Park in Lincoln. Geared for pre-teens, they'll be busy all day at the slides, the water sprays and especially the really big boat that's going to be full of surprises.

At Santa's Village in Jefferson, the Jolly Old Elf is excited about the HO HO H2O water park opening this summer. It will feature water slides, climbs and play areas for the whole family. If you remember the Jingle Jamboree, featuring Elfin John, Maynard, Rudy and Elfis, you'll want to know that a whole new crew will debut this summer, ready to rock and roll.

The Mountain Coaster at Attitash opens this summer. It's a 2,880-foot ride from the top of the mountain back to the valley, through banked curves, straight-aways and a dip or two. You control the speed, so you can enjoy the scenery, too.

The Clarks Trading Post bears are making room for a couple of additions - two bear cubs! Visitors will be able to greet the yet-to-be-named boy and girl cubbys this summer.

The Conway Scenic Railroad rolls out this season with a new dining car, the Hattie Evans, named in honor of the legendary mother who raised her four children alongside the tracks high above Crawford Notch.

Another biodiesel-powered locomotive will roll up the tracks of the Mount Washington Cog Railway this summer, bringing to four the number of environmentally friendly engines heading skyward to the summit of the Northeast's highest peak. Cog afficienados will be able to purchase a season's pass this summer.

The Mount Washington Auto Road will also have seasons' passes available this summer for drivers to take their own vehicle to summit whenever they'd like.

At Clarks Trading Post in Lincoln, Merlin's Mystical Mansion is getting a makeover and the very popular Yandong Chinese Acrobatic Troupe returns for its second season.

Six Gun City in Jefferson gets back in the saddle this summer with the new Giddy-Up Corral merry-go-round, a Double Your Fun program, which invites cowboys and cowgirls to return for a free, second day visit. At the Fort Jefferson Campground right next door, themed weekends, like Hawaiian Cowboy Weekend, are going to be pistol-packing summer fun for the whole family.
