Holderness, N.H. – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center offers a special Nature of the Lakes Cruise on Squam Lake. This tour focuses on the science of the lakes and the creatures that make Squam their home. Explore the lakes with an experienced Squam Lakes Natural Science Center naturalist in search for wildlife, including the Common Loon and Bald Eagle. Observe loon behavior and communication first-hand. Learn about the interactions that occur on the lake, among people, and wildlife as you take in the surrounding landscape. Come away with an enhanced appreciation and understanding of the lake and the wildlife that call it home.

Explore Squam Cruise
Daily through October 19 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Holderness, N.H. – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center has three daily cruises on Squam Lake. This tour has something for everyone. Experience the wonders of the area where On Golden Pond was filmed. Hear about Squam Lake’s human and natural history. See Loons, Bald Eagles and other wildlife up-close on one of New Hampshire’s most beautiful lakes aboard comfortable canopied pontoon boats with knowledgeable guides.

In September, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center members can take advantage of a special partnership with the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord (formerly the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium). During September Science Center members are invited for one free visit to the Discovery Center (the number admitted for free is equivalent to number your Science Center membership allows). Garden Design with Nature

Holderness, N.H. - Squam Lakes Natural Science Center offers the opportunity to learn about using patterns and rhythms in nature as mentors so that landscape design becomes an ecological, self-renewing, sustainable design. Mimicking natural ecosystems’ structure and function, participants will create self-regulating ecologies that interact, cooperate, and depend on one another to sustain life. This is an opportunity to create low impact, self-maintaining ecologically responsible, livable landscapes.

Greening Your Existing Home

Holderness, NH – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is offering a program on Greening your home. Join a representative from Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI) for tips to reduce the amount of energy your home uses. The program will include discussion of ideas such as energy-saving lifestyle tips, ways to locate air leaks, and energy-saving devices such as one that can recover heat from hot water going down your drain. The presentation will also include a brief introduction to solar water heating. PAREI formed in 2004 to help Plymouth area residents and businesses prepare for an energy-constrained world. Their motto is “Plan Now for your Energy Future.”

Grandparent’s Day at Squam Lakes Natural Science Center

Holderness, NH – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is hosting a day to honor grandparents. Grandparents are very special people, and Squam Lakes Natural Science Center would like to celebrate National Grandparent's Day by offering free admission to any grandparent who visits with a paying grandchild on September 13th.
Cost: $13/adults, $11/seniors, $9 youth (ages 3-15), 2 and under free.

Under the Surface

Holderness, NH – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is offering a program exploring underwater life. Ponds are a great place that often team with wildlife, but much of the living world in a pond is below the surface! During this fun-filled adventure participants will get their hands wet and explore below the surface of the pond in search of insects, crayfish, and more.
Ages 6 and up

Autumn Festival

Holderness, NH – The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is holding it’s annual Autum Festival. Enjoy live animal presentations and crafts for children at this family-oriented festival. Kids of all ages can enjoy an entertaining show of puppetry and music with Lesley Smith's Theatre of Life Puppets starring Sammy Snail in a “Wild and Furry Puppet Adventure” (www.sammysnail.com). Lunch – provided by Lonhhaul Farm -- will be available for purchase. Volunteer docents will be on-hand with live animal and props to enhance the visitor experience along the trail.
This event is sponsored by Community Guaranty Savings Bank of Plymouth.

The mission of Squam Lakes Natural Science Center (SLNSC) is to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire’s natural world. Through spectacular live animal exhibits, natural science education programs, and lake cruises, the Science Center has educated and enlightened visitors for more than forty years about the importance of our natural world.
